Contemporary art, sculpture, photography and other media.

Presenting so-called contemporary works of art reveals the men and women who occupy artistic space in a period stretching from the mid-50s to the present day.

We are therefore faced with up-and-coming and well-known artists, who make up some of the 75,000 individuals registered with the Maison des Artistes and whom we will find on and in this platform. Everyone’s access to contemporary art introduces us to Atlan, Alechinsky and the Cobra movement, Mondrian and Pollock, masters of abstraction.

In another field, today we can’t fail to mention Ernest Pignon-Ernest, Gérard Zlotykamien, Jef Aérosol, Jacques Villeglé or, in another genre, Olivier de Sagazan , bansky, who represent street-art, urban art and performance art.

Contemporary painting

Given that contemporary painting emerged in the mid-twentieth century, we can clearly see the gap between modern and contemporary art, just as there was between the ancients and the moderns. We realize that modern art is becoming the art of the discerning collector, Graffiti is becoming art with Jean Michel Basquiat, just as Andy Warhol, master of Pop art, accompanied Keith Haring’s Urban Art.

Contemporary painting denotes a new awakening and great curiosity, encouraging imagination and new forms, proposing a “liberal” vision and recreating a new, experimental artistic vein.

Contemporary sculpture

Experimentation began in 1920 with Marcel Duchamp, and continued for some thirty years with Giacometti, Brancusi and Picasso, who opened the door to revolutionary, even anti-social art.

From assemblage to installation, artists can use a wide range of materials – liquid, solid, organic, mineral and even gaseous – in an art form open to experimentation.

Art photography

Photography isn’t the poor relation of your collections, it’s a cost-effective way to kick-start your passion for the visual arts.

It’s only recently that photography has come to be regarded as an art form like any other. With the benefit of a hundred years’ hindsight, the field of possibilities is opening up to collectors, and events such as Fotofever, Rencontres d’Arles and Paris-Photo are at last putting the spotlight on photographers such as Sophie Calle, Willy Ronis, Edouard Boubat, Robert Doisneau, Sabine Weiss and JR, who have propelled photography into the realm of works of art.
